But I am so amazed at how this has changed my life I had ...
Wow. Where do I even begin?? First of all, I never write reviews. But I am so amazed at how this has changed my life I had to sit down and write one! I have 4 dogs (all rescues) ranging from a 100 pound bloodhound, 2 shepherd mixes and a husky. Ever since I got the husky 3 years ago, I have done EVERYTHING known to man to keep that dog from running away. And if you know anything about Huskies, you know they love to roam and rarely come back home on their own. Between digging holes under the fence and scooting out the front door when my 5 year old opens it too far, I would say I have chased him over 100 times. I have put plastic chicken wire around the bottom of my whole fence (which actually really helped with the digging problem), spend days filling in holes, concreting holes and losing my damn mind. The husky has taught the 3 other dogs how to be his cohorts. He makes the big one dig while the other 2 stand watch. Then he makes the big one go under first in order to stretch the hole out for the rest of them. It's maniacal, really. I mean, you would think these dogs who come from shelters and now have a huge yard to run in, buddies to play with, and a family that loves them would want to stay...but I guess it's just instinct. Anyways, after chasing all 4 of them at rush hour traffic after my neighbors fence fell, I had HAD it. I lost my freaking mind. I searched on Amazon for good options that would both keep them in the backyard and in the front yard should they escape through the front door. After reading the reviews I gave this a try. I got the system and set it up in my living room. I collered up the boys and began training. I took them out front one at a time and started slowly. I used treats to reward them for turning back to the house when they heard the beep. I did that with each of them for a day. The next day I did the same but increased the level to 2. Basically it only took once for them to get slightly zapped to realize it was no bueno. Over the next few days we continued that. The husky took a bit more time to "get" it, because I realized the prongs weren't getting to his skin very well through the fur. I switched them out for the long prongs that comes with it and it worked right away. I got a little cocky on the 4th day and the husky ran right through it and into the woods/creek/other neighborhood/hell. When I got him I discovered it wasn't tight enough. Now everytime I put it on I double check him. It has been a week and they are different dogs! I keep the collars on all day and take them off at night. They even listen better inside when the collars are on. Only thing I can say is I wish the collar was a better material. I know I can put them on other collars, but for the price I feel like they should be leather. But other than that I can say, this is an amazing product. If we move, I don't have to worry about wires. The perimeter is my whole front yard and most of the back. They can't get to the shed anymore in the back corner which is awesome. That's where they had their "No Humans Allowed" meetings so now they meet under the porch. ;) Anyways, if you are having trouble with your dogs escaping, get this and ease your mind!
