Easy to start. Hard to stop!
I started playing this game for five minutes...and an hour later was still playing. Township is, by far, one of the easiest, yet deepest farm simulator games on the market today. Gameplay is intuitive and easy to pick-up. Planting crops? Hold down the crop icon and drag it over an empty field. Ready to harvest? Drag a scythe over the field. Need to feed your cows? Drag a bag of cow feed across the cows. The crop management part of the game is exceptional. You have a barn to store all your products -- from raw crops (wheat, tomatoes, corn, etc.) to finished products (milk, cheese, linen, bread, etc). While in the barn, you can sell excess goods by simply clicking on the crop, setting the quantity, and clicking on sell. Factories can turn raw crops into refined products (cotton to linen to sweaters, etc.). Some of the factories depend on each other so good planning is a must. You can't make sweaters without yarn and you can't make yarn without cotton. One tip that I sorta backed into is leaving products in the factories when my barn is full. The barn has a fixed number of slots for everything -- crops, goods, refined products, and building materials. Each factory has up to six slots available for finished goods. You can use those six slots as an overflow for your barn until your barn can be upgraded. An added element is the helicopter delivery service. You own a helicopter! And it can deliver goods to your customers throughout the map. You earn XP and gold for each order. The map of your town shows each customer's location in the form of a push pin and their order. Each order is color-coded. Red means the order is missing something. Green means the order is ready for delivery. The game tells you when an order is ready by putting a checkbox in the "Orders" button and showing the order quantity on a chalkboard near the heliport. Town building is both fun and mildly annoying. The fun part is early into the game when homes and community buildings can be built quickly and without a fuss. As you progress into the game, the building become more complicated and require additional building supplies -- like glass, brick, nails, and more. Until you open a city market, the only way to get those additional supplies is via a supply train...which can take up to an hour to arrive. Of course, you can pay you way around the delay. Right now, I have three buildings waiting on supplies but refuse to spend money on a salon or a bowling alley. Also, I wish there was a way to rotate the map. Town expansion through land purchases is easy and relatively cheap. I've purchased six expansion plots and they averaged around 75 coins per plot. As you add more factories and homes, this is a must. Each expansion can take up to an hour to be processed -- as trees are chopped down, land is flattened, etc. Township has in-game achievements and Amazon achievements. The in-game ones provide you with extra cash and XP. I couldn't find the Amazon achievements in-game but they appear to exist. Township also keeps statistics on your gameplay -- which is great to assess your performance against other players. Like many of these games, you can purchase "cash" and buy your way through a production problem, a time delay, or a needed crop. You might also use the "cash" to expand your barn (which is a must). Given that the game is free, I have no problem with throwing a little cash at the developers for a job well done. The game offers a nice deal on "cash" early on that I jumped on quickly. I'm having a blast with this game. Highly recommend.
