This is my first attempt at refilling. Everything worked effortlessly. I refilled 4 out of 5 cartridges with out spilling a drop. I did get a bit of dye on my hands, but that was during the clean up, by the sink. Just follow the instructions, work slow and you wont have any problems. The most difficult part of the refill, was determining how much ink to use. I couldn't figure, how much ink was left in the cartridges. I spent a lot of time researching, trying to determine what the capacity of the cartridges are. There's a lot of different information, on the internet, as to the capacity of these cartridges. I finally determined that 564 color cartridges hold 4.5 ml, 564 Black holds 6 mil, 564XL color holds 8 ml and 564XL Black holds 18 ml. I worked very slow. Slower than the instructions directed. When you refill these cartridges, the ink has to soak the sponges in the cartridges. Filling too fast will cause the ink to back up, because the sponge can't absorb the ink quickly. Over estimating how much ink to use, could cause an overfill and leak out the top of the cartridge's air vent. There is a small downside to using refilled HP564/564XL cartridges. Each cartridge has a chip on it, which records the cartridge's usage. When I put the refilled cartridge back into the printer, the printer displayed a message, that I am using a used cartridge and reads the cartridge as empty. The cartridge works fine though and the ink flows normally. I need to keep a watch out for a chip resetter for this cartridge. The print out looks fine, indistinguishable from original HP ink/dye. This product is very good, I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to save a bunch of bucks. I estimated that a refill of all [5] 564XL cartridges costs me $9.55 vs. $90.00 for full set of genuine HP 564XL cartridges. That's a savings of 89%.
