I don't like to buy firewood, when I can use all the storm downed limbs in my yard, so I got the bigger size and I think I'm probably glad I did. This thing works as advertised. Not every piece of wood is going to split in one fell whack, which is perfectly normal, but it sure is easier and safer than me wielding an ax. I can whack a lot of kindling and quarter some small logs pretty quickly. I use a one pound sledge for smaller pieces (approx 3 in dia.) and a 3 pounder for bigger ones (approx. 6 inch dia.). The cutting edge of this is plenty sharp, but I'm sure it could be resharpened with a file if need be. My only real concern is that it will rust if left outside, so right now, it's by my fireplace hearth and I wipe with mineral oil after I use it. I would like to mount on a stand or set on a big log, but haven't gotten that far yet. Having too much fun bashing wood into splinters for now. Also, I'm a fat, 70 year old woman, if that helps. so pretty sure anyone could use this with a fair amount of ease.
