Great product if your dog isn't a dick
"Train your dog to ring a bell!" they said. "It'll be fun!" they said.
I've always potty trained my dogs to ring bells. But like, old school bells. I'm talking a string on the door, attached to a Santa's reindeer kinda bell. It has always worked well, but since our puppy came to us in 'modern' times, I thought I'd get "with it" and try this ringing doorbell.
He picked it up pretty quickly, as corgis do. Great, right?
Y-yeah, uh ... just ... so great.
Does he ring it to go to the bathroom? Yes.
Does he ring it to play outside? Yes.
Does he ring it because he just wants to watch me open the door? Also yes.
Does he ring it because he's bored? Wants to visit the neighbor dogs? Does he ring it because he wants me to hear that double ding-dong in my nightmares after I precariously fall asleep after a long day of taking him outside for his every whim?
Yes. Yes, he does.
It's a great product. My only suggestion would be that instead of the double "ding-dong!" sound, you could customize the ring to something like, "Thank you for letting me outside for whatever reason, I am nothing without you and greatly appreciate the effort you've funneled into my existence and training! I love you so much, human person!" That might take the sting out of having to get up every five minutes to let him out after he rings it.
If not, I guess that's what wine is for.
And, well, at least he's not peeing in the house anymore. (Probably because he's outside for three quarters of his daily life, but we take the wins with the losses, right?)
