I purchased this monitor to be a secondary monitor for when I travel or am working somewhere other than my home office. I did have some issues getting it to work but came to find out it is due to my surface pro. The surface pro only gives output for video out of the mini display port. So the cables that came with the monitor did not help me right out of the box (not their fault, mine since I was not aware). I also am using a external power source (which again is due to my laptop). That is completely okay with me. You can either plug it in (with the cords that it came with and the outlet plug it came with) or you can use an external battery (I uses an AN*ER external battery). I picked up the cord and adapter I needed to run it off my laptop at a local electronics store due to time constraints and need. I would say it is a great choice. It is also larger than my monitor on my pro so that's a win. I am sure once my son realizes it will work with his Switch he will attempt to take it. I do think I will invest in another cord to use it with my iphone because wow what a screen for on the go movies!
