After going through a Food Saver every 2-3 years I decided to go to a different brand and/or spend more for a higher end unit. I read tons of reviews and came away feeling that spending more does not always equal better performance or greater longevity. Never even heard of Potane before I started researching vacuum sealers and took a chance on the Potane VS2690 because of the moderate price point and the 5 year warranty. Have to admit that so far I'm liking this little machine alot. The 4 vacuum presets work as advertised but probably the feature I like and use the most is the manual vacuum mode, because my previous sealers would fairly often not evacuate enough air before sealing, I now have total control of when the bag is sealed. I have no idea of the life span of this unit yet but the 5 year warranty gives me peace of mind.
