Heartfelt but Poor Accuracy
I love having more Black stories. This show tells shocking stories of horrible treatment of slaves, which deserve to be told. However, the inaccuracies pull me out of the show. For example, the underground railroad is a literal underground railroad. Furthermore, all the "saviors" in the story are white, when in reality free Blacks took most of the risks (and mostly in the North). I find myself wondering what else isn't accurate when I really want to be immersed in the world. The cinematography is beautiful, but portions are too dark to see what's happening. Perhaps that's for the best because a lot of emotional/spiritual/physical darkness take place during these scenes.
