Excellent Character Development; Semi-Rough Language; Disjointed Thriller; HAUNTING, AUTHENTIC...
Lately, I’ve struggled with sleep, since my recent trip to ER, so I started reading this at 4:00 am.
I think what piqued my interest was the fact that a haunting, real-life tragedy was the inspiration for this novel. The author provided that story in the introduction.
CHARACTER: Development of the characters is excellent. In fact, if I were a budding novelist, I would be envious at how the author slips in the various quirks that make the people feel so real, even authentic. Mind you, some readers me be challenged by the seemingly disjointed opening chapters.
LANGUAGE: Mostly, only the milder epithets in this novel. However, the eff-word pays a visit in Chapter 10, page 62, and Chapter 58, page 274. Certainly, I would not let those two incidents stop me from reading this thriller, but I do believe there is no gain to the story by inserting them.
BOTTOM LINE
I’m close to rating it five stars, except for the language. Say, 4-1/2 stars rounded down to 4.
