Our cats love it. It's quiet until the water level gets low, and I am glad we bought it. However, be sure to wash it! Not just the reservoir -- wash EVERYTHING. Take apart the motor and wash that, too! Wash it EVERY time you refill it! If you don't, slime will build up everywhere you DON'T clean. Clear slime will build up underneath the motor, and black slime will build up inside the motor. CLEAN EVERYTHING THOROUGHLY! Update: I just discovered that the impeller (the little magnet thing inside the pump, which is what actually moves the water) is hollow -- you can poke a pipe cleaner through it. I didn't realize that, and had been wondering lately why the fountain was getting gross so fast. As I stressed above, you must clean EVERYTHING. To clean the hollow center of the impeller, I use a very skinny brush, but you could also use a pipe cleaner. Once in a while, after cleaning it, I add some bleach to the water and let it sit in the sink for an hour or so, to thoroughly disinfect it. Be sure to rinse thoroughly after doing that, and then rinse a few more times, just to be sure.
