It Works, It Really Does Work
Mr. MVP has sleep apnea and on top of that his body does not produce enough of the chemical that paralyzes a normal human during a natural sleep cycle. To put it simply, he sleep fights (like Ron Swanson on Parks and Rec) almost every single night and it really does not matter if he is dreaming about running the New York Marathon or fighting off zombie invaders, I am going to experience it through his kicking and punching. The novelty of sleeping next to a sleep fighter wore off about three hours into our now fifteen years of marriage, so it has been an ongoing struggle to find a happy medium and trust me we have tried everything. At our last visit to Mr. MVP's pulmonologist she started to round the corner back to prescription sleep medication because the last CPAP machine adjustment did not really work like we wanted it to, but she stopped and asked if we had ever tried melatonin. We are usually very skeptical of naturopathic treatments for serious ailments, but desperate times and all that right? Dr. S. recommended RemFresh by name and said she had a number of patients taking it quite successfully. I went on Amazon before we left her office and ordered a box. That weekend Mr. MVP started the RemFresh and we both thought nothing of it because we expected it was going to be a $32 failure. Two nights later and I woke myself up multiple times during the night to make sure Mr. MVP was still breathing because he had not woken me up yet. He had slept straight through the night. It was a freaking miracle. As he continued to use the RemFresh his sleep just got better. No sleep fighting and he consistently got eight to nine hours of uninterrupted sleep (he tracks his sleep with his apple watch). As I knew Mr. MVP was going to hit the bottom of his magical melatonin package eventually, when we were at Costco last weekend we saw they had Natrol brand melatonin 5mg time released capsules for a fraction of the price of RemFresh, so I was more than happy to switch one for the other. Mr. MVP finished out his RemFresh and without my knowledge started the Natrol melatonin on Sunday and just like that the sleep fighting was back with a vengeance. It was miserable. When he woke up Monday morning I asked him if he had started the Natrol melatonin and we both instantly knew our frugality had been our downfall. I went online to the RemFresh website and ordered two more boxes and was able to get an extra 10% off coupon and free shipping (the price is a little better there by the way) and then I sent Mr. MVP to our local CVS (you can also print out a physical coupon on the RemFresh website to take to a store) to pick up some 2mg RemFresh - they don't carry the 5 mg - after work to fill in the gap until the online order shows up in the mail. *For the curious - Mr. MVP is very sensitive to medications (aspirin upsets his stomach and one children's Benadryl knocks him out for hours), but this melatonin did not have any drowsiness side effect at all. He takes it 30 minutes before we go to sleep and then we go to sleep. I have had to wake him up in the middle of the night (I have medical problems myself - we are a real pair the two of us) for help and he woke right up without any issue and then was able to fall back to sleep without any problem afterwards.
