Just got this phone for $199 unlocked and after opening the box, setting up the phone 1st task was to install Google services.. (you first need to enable non Amazon app installation, then download 3-4 apk files for google play services, google login framework, google service framework and finally google play store) this enables side installation of any google so store so using Google account imstall gmail, maps, drive, Firefox, search, YouTube, etc to fully empower this phone. Once google is enabled the phone is actually very nice to use compared to the poor quality of Samsung or unreasonable high price of HTC. I hope Amazon will try his best to make a hybrid Google + Amazon user experience that maintains Amazon's privacy but optionally shows advanced users to use Google ecosystem in addition to the fire os experience... (dunno how easy that is given that the forked out the OS from older version of Android) ** Update - even at $229 its a great price **
