Thanks Insurance, for forcing me into the world of dermatology!!!
Bought this for DIY skin treatments. (Thanks a lot, huge health insurance deductible!!!) I freeze off my kids' warts and my husband's scaly age spots (hyperkeratosis). I DO NOT APPLY DIRECTLY TO SKIN WITH THE ATTACHED APPLICATOR STRAW!!! The force with which it dispenses through the narrow applicator will splatter the product everywhere! I'm NOT suggesting you do this, but rather, just explaining what I do: I wear safety goggles, as does the person I am helping. I clean the lesion area with a cotton ball and rubbing alcohol. I get a Styrofoam cup and a cotton swab. Holding the can so the nozzle faces away from me, I attach the straw applicator tip that comes with the can, and then I spray about 1/2 tsp. of the product into the cup (at a safe distance away from myself). I soak the tip of the swab in the product and firmly press it on the "lesion" for at least ten seconds. The skin sizzles and turns white, then fades to normal. I repeat. I apply antibiotic ointment and a bandage, changing it every morning for the next three days. I then apply plain petroleum jelly over the area for four more days, covering it with a clean bandage daily. I then just cover it with a new bandage every day. It may take a week or two for the scab to fall off. Contrary to popular belief, allowing a scab to dry out does not cause the skin to heal quicker. Keeping the scab moist during the healing process allows the underlying skin matrix to move more fluidly, resulting in a minimal scar. I keep the sun off the new skin for at least six months.
