Unsolicited review because I MUST share my story!
I have a deviated septum.
My right nostril is clogged and generally (on a normal day) can only blow in and out about 1/3 of the air. I have done various (gross detail warning here, please stop reading if you are squeamish) experiments through the years.
-I have covered my left nostril to try and breath through my right. That doesn't last very long because I simply cannot get enough air in and out of my body.
-I have used Q-tips dips in hydrogen peroxide to "clean" both nostrils. (This is actually where I truly realized the extend of my blockage. In my left nostril, I can go all the way, up and in quite smoothly. On my right nostril, there seems to be a fairly large bump blocking the way.
Continued gross detail warning!
I pluck my nose hairs.
Okay. So why am I telling you all this? Well. Every few months, I would get a horrible infection in my right nostril. It took 3 doctors and a specialist (the name escapes me at the time) to figure out it was because I was plucking my nose hairs that caused the infection. I was basically breaking the skin, and because the nose has inside of it, and is exposed to so much bad stuff during the course of breathing, it left me vulnerable.
These nasal infections were a common event. Further. Sometimes the infection would spread to my right tear duct. There isn't a lot of space from your upper right nostril, to your right tear duct. Sometimes the infections I would get would spread.
ANOTHER gross detail.
For 4 months. That's right, FOUR! I was dealing with this issue that I had initially though of as allergies. Nasal congestion, a bit of discomfort and a constant, CONSTANT runny nose. Imagine every single FREAKING day, you had a dripping faucet on your face.
Thus comes the reason for this review. I purchased this Navage thingy, and all those issues of nasal drip and infection were resolved. I do not believe I can say this thing cured anything for legal reasons. But COINCIDENTALLY, about a week and a half after I used this thing (and at first I used it 2 or 3 times a day, now it's down to once a week IF I remember) anyways, that leaky faucet for a nose disappeared. I have had ZERO nasal infections since I started using this thing. Let me rephrase, that wasn't entirely accurate. I have had very minor nasal infections, but because this thing basically washes the inside of my nose/nasal cavity, the infections don't last long at all.
The Navage is a little bit tricky to use. It's the amount of pressure you use as you hold the thing up to your face. For me, it tends to be
-put the thing up to my nose tight.
-press the button about halfway so the machine does the prep and creates the vacuum.
-press the button fully
-start pulling the machine back slightly
-pull back a little more and pause.
-you know you get it right when you can sorta see out of the side of your eye (I guess it's bottom of your eye?) that water is pooling into the little container at the bottom of the machine.
note: because I have the prior condition of the deviated septum, the nasal piece that goes into the nostrils only works for me in one direction. Sometimes I forget do it wrong. When I do, I will need to stop. Spin the nasal piece in a circle so that the tubes switch nostrils. Then, the earlier said process over.
The detail being that you basically have a U or a horseshoe with the ends up in your nose. One end has water coming in, one end has water coming out. My deviated septum makes my nose a one way street. So I have to make sure the water flow doesn't go ahead that direction. If I am wrong, the machine WILL NOT WORK! Not the machines fault. That is my anatomy saying water doesn't go that way!
Again, I use this thing about once a week as a preventive measure but I am basically free of that prior condition of a constantly dripping nose. I am basically free of having an unhealing, ugly, gash just inside my nose. A gash that won't heal because of all the exposure to germs. A gash that gets bigger and uglier because of infection. People can see this half wound on my face! As the wound tried to heal, it would get crusty. Very VERY unsightly.
And I am free.
Will I eventually get a surgical operation? Yes. But until then. This has been a LITERAL lifesaver.
