We took both our Havanese dogs, 15 and 17 lbs, on an Alaskan flight with these carriers. They were easy to carry with the dogs in them, like a duffel bag. Most people didn't even notice that we had dogs in them. The expandable side was vital to the dogs' comfort. If you are lucky enough to have the seat next to you open on a 2X2 seater, there isn't a divider under the seats. So both carriers will fit perfectly under the seat, even with the side expanded. If you don't have the room, the carriers will only fit with the expander closed. Even closed the dogs seemed to be comfortable, but they did get warm because there is not that much ventilation. Just the front and top are ventilated when the expander is closed. The pocket was nice to keep treats, leashes, and other things handy during the flight.
