Tom Petty
Every year for Christmas, I buy my kids(now 18 and 15) a game. Catan. Uno Attack. Wii. Something so that ONCE a year, they can get along and have fun together, preferrably with grandma and myself playing, as well. I read up on The Game. I STUDY The Game. Then, I buy The Game. And, over the last couple of years it has gotten harder and harder. Younger has zero interest in any sort of game. Older only likes physical, win/lose, highly competitive games. There really isn't enough wine on Earth for Grandma and I to make it through an entire game with them both-even though this is a thing we wish we could do. So...I gave up. Wasn't gonna be a Christmas game this year. And I saw an ad for Vertellis. It's a very compelling ad. Don't watch it. Read this instead. I don't care if you buy it or not, LOL. But I bought it for Thanksgiving. Here are my impressions: The Good: Younger child stayed focused for all but last 10 minutes Play can be interrupted as many times as need be (for Thanksgiving pie, or impromptu sibling wrestling, in our case, but The Game of Vertellis doesn't care why. Take as many breaks as you need to!) Wine makes it better (Grandma and Mom approved!) It was competitive enough to hook Older's attention. The Bad: You're only supposed to play with the same group once per year. You really CAN'T play with the same group much more frequently than that. Verdict: Excellent choice for annual events like Christmas, Thanksgiving, reunions, Hannuka, etc. Not sure I would make it my top choice for a party game. It's not high-energy, racuous, loud, LOL, or like CAH. Much more mellow, Vertellis is the Tom Petty 'Wildflowers' of games.
