Great quality, but poor touch design.
Let me save you the trouble and cut to the chase: these headphones are worth the price, but you might want to consider their other offering with tactile buttons. Read on.
I work in an office in which I’m on the phone for ~4 hours a day. I needed a pair of headphones that fit several requirements.
First: bluetooth connectivity. These earbuds are actually the second pair of earbuds I’ve bought from the company after my wife enjoyed the $33.99 SoundPeats earbuds. I’ve not had any connectivity issues with these headphones. From the minute you open the case to remove a single or both headphones, the phone (Pixel 2) pairs with them automatically after initial setup. I’ve never had an issue with connectivity or distance interference. This requirement is met.
Second: battery life. These headphones have yet to die after several hours of use. This is large in part due to the fact that the case doubles as a charging case and therefore every time I put the headphones back in--they charge. The case has a USB-C connector, so that’s one less cable I need to carry around since my phone also has a USB-C connector. After charging it on the first day, I’ve yet to experience any battery life issues and the case is still going strong on it's first charge. This requirement was met.
Third: sound quality. Being on calls non-stop, I was worried that calls would come through “tin-ish” or sounding like the caller was talking through a tin can. I’ve not experienced that at all. Sound quality is strong, and volume is more than adequate. Granted I’m not listening to FLAC audio files and am not an audiophile, but the music I listen to is varied (BTBAM, the 5 Browns, Tycho) so all genres have sounded good coming through these. This requirement was met.
Fourth: microphone capability. Again, my primary use is phone calls and in-office use. Callers have never mentioned that I’m hard to hear, and have never said anything about background noise or wind noise as I’m taking calls while outside. I feel confident these microphones do a good job. This requirement was met.
Fifth: fit & comfort. Unlike the other headphones/earbuds that are sold by SoundPeat, there are NO ear canal adapters included. Read: one size fits all. This worried me initially. I’m not a small guy, I’m not a big guy -- but I like options. However, after wearing these for 4hours+ at a time, I can say that they are actually pretty comfortable. And as far as Fit goes, they’ve never fallen out. I can safely say that you could be active / exercise while listening to music and not have a concern that these would fall out. This requirement was met.
Sixth: Functionality. Sadly, this is where I think there’s room to grow for these. One thing I love about the earbuds that I bought for my wife is the fact that there is a button on each earbud that clicks when you press it. If it clicks, you know a function has been performed -- be it pause / play / advance track, whatever. On these headphones, they are touch sensitive in a “multifunction” zone that supposedly runs up/down the headphone. After days of use, I can not say I like this implementation. I cannot find this zone consistently, and even when I stumble upon it-- it doesn’t register my touches. I had to study the instruction manual for a good long period to remember what two clicks does on the right ear vs the left ear, or a long press, or while on a call, or listening to music -- it’s all confusing because you have no idea if any of the touches are registered. Even then, the “hold for 2 seconds” instruction is realistically more like 3 seconds, so that was fun to learn. Here’s a suggestion to the manufacturer: as a User, when I touch the multifunction zone of an earbud, play an audible noise in the headphone so I know it was registered. As it stands right now, I don’t care about Placing a Call On Hold functionality -- replace that with a Volume Control function. If you want to change the volume, you have to do it on the phone. I can live with the headphones as they are since I don’t really care about Skipping tracks or Rejecting phone calls -- but it sure would be nice to know if I ever did want to change a song then I could expect to hear a noise that told me the headphones registered my touch.
Overall, do I suggest these headphones? Yes. I suggest you buy these headphones. The battery life is great, the audio quality is good, the microphones pick up every word -- and they’re comfortable. But if you are the type of person who expects to utilize the Commands functionality on your headphones instead of your phone, then I suggest the other pair that’s a set of earbuds for ~$34. Don’t get me wrong, these are great. But one size doesn’t necessarily fit all.
