Good package overall
Good package overall. For the price, I think this is a pretty good product. I just installed this on my Mom's 2013 Ford Cmax. It wasn't that hard to install (took about 2 hours). It requires some minimal technical understanding. Anyone that is familiar with wrenching on cars and can splice wires together should be able to handle it. The instructions are somewhat lacking, but it wasn't hard to figure out. The camera mount works nice and looks pretty clean bolted to the license plate. I ran the wires into the rear liftgate through a tiny hole next to the license plate light. I had to remove the interior plastic panels on the liftgate (hardest mechanical part of the whole thing) to get at the wire harness. After removing the taillight and running the car, it was easy to identify with a voltmeter which wire was ground and which powered the reverse light. I spliced into those and soldered. The long RCA cable has a small wire on each end. This wire connects to the reverse light 12V+ as well. It is a 'wake up' line that signals the monitor to power on. The monitor itself draws power from another source at the front of the car (ignition, or the included 12V jack). If you do it right, THE MONITOR IS ONLY ON WHEN YOU ARE IN REVERSE. I tucked the wire under some trim pieces and mounted the monitor up front on the dash. I 3d printed a mount with a magnet that holds the monitor. Easy to remove and looks clean! The picture is decent, and certainly good enough. I did notice some flickering in the image, but it was only a minor annoyance. So far so good.
