I researched all the standing desks and picked this one.
Please listen to me. I researched all of the standing desks that are out there. That's super expensive ones, the ones at Costco, the ones at Walmart, and the ones that annoy you with incessant ads on Facebook Marketplace. I read articles on Wired and the NYT. I did it for about two months. I basically fell down a standing desk well, and it took me eight weeks to crawl my way back out.
Quite simply, these are the standing desk legs that you want to purchase. I could go into details about quietness, speed, ability to program certain certain desk heights. I could talk to you about the value of a dual motor versus a single motor standing desk. I could even talk to you about the need to check the quality of the welds and kind of steel used in construction. But, I don't want to do all that. I just want make it easy on you and tell you that these are the standing desk legs that you should pick.
I bought these legs on Amazon and a used desktop from FB Marketplace. It's an 80" x 30" table top. All in, it cost me about $375.
A couple of tips here:
Go with a sturdy desktop. I find that having something heavier is better for increasing sturdiness and stability. Also, go with something that's solid wood. You don't want to risk cracking your desktop. I've seen a lot of people say that they got a butcher block from Home Depot. That's probably what I'd do, if I did it again. When assembling the desktop, use a loose interpretation of the instructions. They're not perfect, but the build itself is pretty logical if you take a step back. I'd say don't screw in your electronics until you've set everything up.
UPDATE: It’s been about a year of me working from home full-time and using this standing desk. It still works great. One note of caution, hang on to your instruction manual. You’ll need it for deciphering the occasional error code. I definitely do wish that I had gone with a desktop that was a little more original like a butcher block or an old table top. While cool, my setup looks pretty generic.
