GoSport vs Fat Cat portable pool table
Updated July 2021: I just noticed GoSport now has other colors and also 7ft tables. My review was written when they only had 1 model: 6ft red. I'm so envious of those who have the 7ft tables! Updated Match 2021: after a month of playing on both tables, I've updated the review. OVERALL RATING: 4.5. --- I bought the Fat Cat table first but wasn't happy, thus decided to try this one. If you're deciding between these 2 tables, read on. PLAYABILITY: GoSport: 5 vs FatCat: 3 My problem with the Fat Cat is the rails are pretty much dead. I read the reviews and didn't have high expectation, but it is worse. Forget about doing bank shots. Bad rails aside, the balls don't roll smoothly on the surface because the resistant is too strong. I have to shoot much harder than I typically do on slate tables. Enter GoSport! This table blown my mind the first time I tried it. The rails bounce unbelievably well and the felt gives the balls quiet, smooth and straight rolling. It's not a little bit better than the Fat Cat, it's day and night difference! This is as close to a slate table as I could hope for. In the reviews of the Fat Cat, some people complained about the lack of rail bouncing but most didn't seem to bother and gave it high rating. I think if you never play with slate tables before, you might not even care or notice. But for the more avid players, you will definitely appreciate the Go Sport more. STURDINESS: Go Sport 4 vs Fat Cat 5 They look very similar but the Fat Cat has 5 steel bars underneath the table to support it (2 running almost the entire length of the table and 3 smaller running across). The GoSport only has 2 bars, but longer. The design of the Fat Cat gives me more confidence. Another thing, to lock the legs of the Fat Cat, you would need to screw in a few plugs. Although that was a bit of extra work, I like it better for safety reason. This is the reason why I give GoSport 4 star instead of 5 star. LOOK: GoSport 5 vs Fat Cat 4 They both look beautiful in their own way. So it really depends on your preference. The reason I give the GoSport better rating because the red felt looks much clearer in low-light room. I find the black felt of the Fat Cat just too dark to play in my low light room. If your room is full of light, then either would do. ACCESSORIES: GoSport 4 vs Fat Cat 3 Balls: the ball set goes with the GoSport is much better. First, they come with a nice box, easy for storage while the Fat Cat balls come in a throwaway wrapping. But that's minor, the important thing is GoSport balls are of much high quality. Fat Cat balls after less than a month of playing are all chipped and cracked. GoSport balls are like new, after the same period of playing (updated: after 6 months, GoSport balls are still like new, which is quite insane as I didn't expect them to be that good!). Cue sticks: both are terrible. I don't know what's the deal with these manufacturers shipping bad cue sticks that don't even have a cue tip! You **need** to buy new cue stick. (I bought a $30 48-inch cue stick on Amazon and I am satisfied.) Rack: well, it's a piece of plastic. Both are passable. No problem. PRICE: GoSport 5 vs Fat Cat 4 Depending on when you buy it, GoSport is $30 or $60 cheaper. SUMMARY: buy the GoSport. You will thank me later. GoSport manufacturers if you read this, make these improvement so that your product is a solid 5-star. - Add more supporting bars underneath the table - Have more secure leg locking mechanism - Put a usable cue tip on the cue sticks (or don't include cue sticks and reduce the price)
