Great watch
I'm a watchmaker, so I see dozens of different watches every week, and from this experience, I feel qualified to make a pronouncement now and again, when I see good design. This watch is very nice, and represents a superb value. Mine has been faithfully ticking away on my wrist for almost a year, and is still keeping near-perfect time, while looking pretty good, despite being subjected to the bumps and scrapes of everyday life. Here are a few reasons why this watch is a good buy:
A) it's tough. It's got a solid stainless steel case, and a sapphire crystal. This means that the case won't corrode or rust, either from moisture in the environment, or from sweat. If it gets scratched or dinged, it can be easily refinished, but it's not made of gold or some exotic material, so it doesn't have to be treated with kid gloves. The crystal is slightly domed and flush with the bezel, so it's not only virtually scratchproof, but also unlikely to be shattered unless it's struck head-on. 100 meters of water-resistance is a further bonus -I wouldn't recommend diving, but you could actually swim with this watch, if you had to.
B) the ETA 2824 movement is a tried-and-true workhorse, which delivers chronometer-grade accuracy and extremely good reliability, while also having refinements we expect in watches today, like a quickset for the date. Parts will be around for the next hundred years, easily.
C) The dial and hands are beautiful and supremely legible, with crisp printing, subtle texturing, and precise, at-a-glance readability. This is important because the primary purpose of a watch is to communicate the time, yet, it's also an item of jewelry which is on the wrist all day long, so it must also look good.
D) Aesthetically, the watch is simple, elegant, and functional. It's hard to find a watch which doesn't cost $20,000 that offers a traditional, no-nonsense design. The included leather strap is well-made and durable, and if the watch is to be used extensively outdoors, a bracelet version is available, or a NATO-style strap can be easily and cheaply fitted, which looks great, since this watch is modeled on the original Hamilton watches of WWII, which were worn on canvas.
E) "Heritage" is a very subjective thing, but for myself, as an American, I'm proud that my watch says "Hamilton" (traditionally the top-of-the-line American watch.) Nowadays the brand doesn't have the cachet that Rolex or Omega has, but, in point of fact, it keeps time just as well, is just as reliable, and represents an unparalleled value, while still having a name that folks on the street may recognize -and not in the way that they 'recognize' Timex or Citizen.
Anyway, I've rambled on long enough, but suffice it to say that I don't think you'll find another watch anywhere for anything close to the price range that is as well-made or good looking (it's a lot better in person than in any online pictures I've seen) and Amazon's price makes it even more of a no-brainer. This watch makes an ideal "everyday" watch, and is available in 38mm and 42mm versions, depending on your taste or the size of your arm.
