Biggest hooded litter box for large cats
If this is the correct product (there is no picture or detailed description) this is the product I am reviewing: 50695 Catit Jumbo Hooded Cat Pan, Warm Gray 22" x 19. 7" x 18.5". I found this box yesterday and *finally* there is a large enough hooded litter box so your cat can turn around and stand up comfortably. I leave the fold-away door folded up on top, so it is like having a moonroof for the box. I do not use a hooded box to "contain odor" since my cats are fed a raw meat diet there is no litter box odor. However they like to fling litter around and one likes to urinate standing up so sometimes goes over the edge of the box in open designs. I used to use rubbermaid totes with a hole cut in them, but the uneven bottoms with grooved (not deigned for the purpose) are so difficult to clean I have to replace these often. This box appears to be a solution to my problem!
Pros:
- large enough including width so your cat can turn around, dig and stand up without feeling constrained.
- nice smooth finish and rounded corners is less likely to get litter stuck to it
- hood fits tight with the bottom so if urine hits it there is no leak
- locks keep the top on tight
- door can be folded up and away to create a moonroof, for your tall cat to stick his head up
- bag lock feature helps cleaning, you can hook a bag over the doorway tab and scoop litter in without spilling
Cons:
- some people will use the attached door in the down position, which I consider unfair and uncomfortable for cats, to be enclosed ina small space while they do their business. Better to remove the door altogether or keep it folded up.
