Remodeling an ancient home, I really effed up the wall of my staircase trying to remove decades-old wallpaper (that turned out to be about 3 layers of decades-old wallpaper over what was most likely lead paint...). By the time I finished my handy work, the wall was in no condition to be painted over. We decided to wallpaper it, but knew that even in that case, all of the texture on the wall from where I ripped literal chunks of drywall out was going to show through the wallpaper... I sought out this product, and I am so glad I did. We had to overlap a lot of pieces to get complete coverage in the stairs and fit into the awkward molding situation around the doorway (not pictured). We also had to hang some pieces vertically and some horizontally in our effort to maximize the amount of space we could cover with just the one roll I purchased. The overlapped seams are a bit bulky (but still more desirable than the "before"), obviously if I had applied it according to their directions that wouldn't be an issue at all. As far as the pre-pasting and application goes, this stuff is awesome. Dip it in water, keep towels on the floor for the inevitable mess, and slap it up there. I will say it is not as easy to cut with an x-acto as I had hoped. My x-acto blade was brand new, so it isn't likely an operator error. Either way, we cut pieces approx to size with some overhang, dipped in water, plopped on the wall, smoothed with a smoother thing, and then trimmed the excess to fit around the stairs (which was a pain in the ass, but still very easy). It was easy to kinda slide around the wall to get it into place. It is all very well-secured after drying, and is a huge improvement on the previous situation. Can't wait to put real wallpaper over it - I'm sure some seams/texture will show through, but much less than what would've happened if I had just papered over the damage.
