I swore I would never buy any sort of playpen. However, my daughter started crawling and pulling to stand around 6 months and she was bumping into everything! We baby proofed what we could but still had several things that couldn't be put up. Top heavy lamps, power cords behind the side table, dog bones, corners of the coffee table etc. A baby gate wouldn't cut it. We needed a safe space for her to play and something large enough for her to crawl around and practice her standing and walking. This was a life saver. She's an early riser. Sometimes I need to set her in here to play while I finish my coffee! There's enough room for 2 adults to sit comfortably with baby in here! I can even lay down in it! It's neutral and looks great in our space. My daughter loves the gears and phone it comes with on the wall! Well worth the money.
