I have no opened nor tasted the meals contained in this bucket. I bought this as part of a family preparedness plan. The bags and the bucket arrived seals and in excellent condition. Mountain House has been around for 50+ years, is US based and is one of the largest and most reputable companies in the food preservation industry. I trust the product. These meals are meant to be used for two purposes - in an emergency (it's all you got) and for weight/preservation considerations on expeditions. They are not necessarily a healthy option for everyday eating. High in salt, high in preservatives. While the company guarantees 12 years, these bags will be safe for consumption long beyond that. As long as the bags are not punctured, they will be still be edible long after you and I have broke on through to the other side. However, the taste, texture, and nutritional value will begin their decline after the 12 year mark - which is why the company puts that number on the product. I gave this product 5 stars because it's something you can buy, toss in a closet and have a stable, secure food source if you ever need it. The added bucket is just an additional bonus. You never know when something may happen -whether temporary disruption: Natural disaster, terrorist attack, civil unrest, or world ending like climate change or all out war - and this little bucket will be worth it's weight in gold.
