Here's the Scoop on the Wasabi BTR-NPW126-JWP
The question on everyone's mind is whether the Wasabi battery is a good substitute for the OEM battery that came with their Fuji camera. Comments I read before ordering indicate the Wasabi works, but how well seems less certain. So when I received my order (Wasabi Power Battery 2-Pack and Charger for Fujifilm NP-W126) I was anxious to test the batteries. Here are my thoughts on the matter following a discharge/charge cycling of the Wasabi batteries I received.
Each of the Wasabi batteries I received showed about 75% of the capacity of the brand new NP-W126 shipped with my Fuji camera. So they won't power my camera as long as the OEM battery, but I've got two extra batteries, each of which lasts a good amount of time for about half the best price I can find on the OEM battery.
Neither of the batteries I received came close to the 1400 mAh rating printed on their labels. Their capacity should improve somewhat after several discharge/charge cycles, but I don't envision them meeting even the Fuji 1260 mAh rating.
It would be nice to see a data sheet on the batteries to be clear about what kind of safety protections they include, without having to tear apart the battery packaging. Over-voltage, under-voltage, and thermal protections are what you want to see with lithium batteries.
I'm still contemplating this: the front label of the Wasabi says 'premium cells from Japan'. The rear label says 'Made in China'.
Two batteries that will run my camera a good while for about $26 seems a great bargain to me. The charger and cigarette lighter adapter included with the order are a nice bonus as others have observed and commented upon.
Testing - I discharged the Wasabi and Fuji batteries to 6 volts then recharged them at a 1 amp setting to 8.2 volts using a B6AC SkyCharger. The first Wasabi peaked in about 102 minutes taking 791 mA. The second Wasabi had results similar to the first. The Fuji peaked in about 98 minutes taking 1076 mA. This test shows the relative capacities of new batteries (Wasabi and Fuji) discharged and charged in the same fashion close to their limits. But it does not reflect their absolute capacities. A slightly deeper discharge and a slower charge rate would show more capacity. Also, the capacity of new lithium batteries improves somewhat after several discharge/charge cycles.
