We purchased these to see how they would hold up in the open and in the weather where a typical canopy will not, our rear patio was a perfect example of where a canopy (tent like) would not last through a thunderstorm or high winds ( we have a 5 acre field behind us to the west ) so we get some good gusts and none of the canopies ever withstood any of that for long. I have to give these props, although I spent just as much on the hardware to hang them as the sails were to purchase they have held out great, water does penetrate the fabric so items on the deck do get wet but the alternative would be a hug pond of water in the sail if it did not leak through. They have gone thru sun, wind and rain and they have been up near two months now and look great, everybody that sees them asks "where can I get those" We have two 16 foot triangles primarly over a 12x13 patio, one over the top of the other with a 18 inch gap in between, it`s a very artsy look and keeps the sun off the patio plus I don`t have to run out into a lighting storm to try and tie down or dis assemble them to avoid disaster!
