Fantastic PTZ CAM/App combo!
I'd like to start by saying I was not compensated in any way for this review and for those that do not like reading long posts let me summarize with this: The Amcrest ProHD 1080P cam and iOS app, Amcrest View Pro, work flawlessy, are easy to configure, and provide fantastic audio and video for any price range. Don't hesitate to buy one... or as many as you need!
For the rest that enjoy reading a detailed review let me continue... I've been using IP Cams in my home and setting up others for friends and family members for about 6 years. During that time I've tried all different types, interior/exterior/PTZ/POE/Dome/Bullet/etc. It's kind of been a hobby to try out different brands/makes/models, always looking for that perfect cam/app combo. Almost as important as the CAM is the app you will use to view it and I've tried more of those than I'd like to remember!!! Well, with the Amcrest ProHD 1080P and Amcrest View Pro App (for iOS, havent tried the Android version) I think I have finally found the perfect pair!!! Up until this point I was running a few Foscam PTZ HD IP cams in my home when I decided to try the Amcrest ProHD. The Foscams were working fine until after the latest firmware upgrades which forced me to use two different apps to view them since they were different models. As I've said I've tried more apps than I care to remember. So, after finally getting tired of juggling cams and apps, and reading mostly positive reviews, I had to try the new Amcrest ProHD. I was able to purchase them with the usual Amazon Prime ease and found an additional $20 introductory discount code bringing the total per cam down to just $99. That's a great price for a cam with these features and picture/sound quality. Upon unboxing the first thing I noticed was the quality of the packaging. Then the instructions and hardware itself! The cam looks and feels of a much higher quality than any previous indoor cam I've used. It's actually quite a bit smaller than many competitors' PTZ models. The AC/DC power plug and cord are also pleasantly engineered. The cord is a bit longer than average, which is great if you don't have an AC outlet close by, and the inverter itself is a bit smaller as well(similar in size to an ipad charger). Would love to see a POE version of this cam... if anyone from Amcrest is reading! When plugged in the cam does it's range of motion calibration. I immediately noticed it was virtually silent. No noisy motors to alert room occupents of the mechanical motion which is a wonderful plus if you're using these to keep a close eye on your home/office. The next thing I found were the clearly written (in proper English) instructions that document several methods of running through the initial configuration. You can use the mobile app, as I did, or you can install the software that comes on an included CD or is available from the Amcrest website for download. Using the mobile app instructions I had both of my cams streaming video and audio in a matter of a few short minutes on both my phone and the wife's! Since I've only had them for a couple of days I will be testing the rest of the features of this cam including motion detection/emailing alerts/storing to the microSD slot/etc. Overall this is a great cam and I wish the coupon hadn't expired so I can get a few more!!!!! Even so, I will probably be buying a couple more to replace the rest of my Foscams.
