Move over Pilates/Yoga, hello Miranda!
(Note: always compare prices at Miranda's own website, Classical Stretch dot come, they're usually better) What doctors, physical therapy, Pilates and yoga could not do for me, Miranda has done: cure me of several years of worsening chronic back pain (from an injury I suffered doing Pilates), and get me back in shape, in 23 minutes a day of her extremely safe, feel-good, wonderful stretch and strengthening workout. I started using Miranda's system almost a year ago after everything else had failed. My back was getting worse, my physical shape deteriorating - and I wasn't willing to spend the rest of my life in pain and cruddy shape. So I went on the internet in desperation and started searching for something, anything, which could help me - and found Miranda. I started with her Back Pain Recovery and Prevention DVD - WOW! Help at last! - and after several weeks (and feeling MUCH better) moved on to her introductory series (2007, season 4) to learn her full technique. Then I began this season 8 series, which I've worked through at least three times. I've gone from being out of shape and poor posture to being slim, strong, flexible, and probably better posture than I've ever had. Best of all, I'm virtually pain-free, and able to do pretty much any kind of activity I want. And I look great and my clothes fit looser than they ever have. I can't wait to get more series - I want to collect them all. Miranda really has it figured out. I'm a former dancer and home exercise enthusiast, have a whole library of DVDs with all the top names and a lot of lesser-knowns, but I've never seen anything quite like this. It's a TV series, so you get 30 workouts, no two exactly alike, amazing variety, each full-body in just 23 minutes. She even includes exercises for your hands, wrists and feet (I have a tendon issue in one wrist, and that doesn't hurt either since I started with Miranda). Each is in a different tropical location, with Miranda in a different outfit, and sometimes her daughter (also a trainer) and a male trainer join in. Due to the variety, you do NOT get bored doing the same routine over and over or staring at the same scene. You need no special equipment, Miranda shows you how to use ordinary things around the house like a chair or a towel, so you don't have to buy stuff. She has a nice personality and sense of humor, is fairly easy to follow (and apologizes if she occasionally messes up), and obviously cares about her audience and wants to help, because she's been through all the same issues. And she DOES help, hugely! I do recommend her introductory series if you've never done her technique before, as it is quite unique and you'll learn it properly. If you have chronic (muscular-based) back pain, start with her back pain DVD, and use it until you're pain-free before doing anything else. And you can compare prices and view video clips at her own website, Classical Stretch dot com.
