Trigger Warning
Trigger warning: watch out.
I find it endlessly aggravating that I am surprised into *flashbacks* that don't come on easily, because yes, I have been through a lot of treatment, but some authors feel the need to graphically depict scenes that can be written about much better without going into gritty detail, like a filmmaker using every bit of special effects that can be found to bring out horror when it can be done more artfully when you have talent. I have been reading for nearly sixty years and it has become a recent phenomenon among writers to try to depict sexual abuse and/or physical abuse and/or emotional abuse in as many details as possible. I never used to have nearly the difficulty I have today. That said, I applaud the author's success but recommend that you think twice about reading this book if you have a history of trauma in childhood. I read, or tried to read this as my husband's First Reads Kindle selection, on his Kindle, while we were traveling today, and I had to set it aside. It was just too triggering for me.
