From a bluetooth headset nerd, I REALLY like this headset!!!
(First off, I would like to give this 4.5 stars, but don't have that option. Read on for my reasoning.)
I'm a big bluetooth headset snob (or nerd?), and I'm constantly searching for the perfect headset. Saw some pretty good reviews on this one so ordered it.
I've had it for about a week and I'm VERY, VERY pleased with it. I was quite surprised by its small-ish size. It looked bigger and "fatter" in the pictures than it really is. Turns out, it's a very nice size...thin, lightweight, not too wide or long, and sits comfortably and snugly in my ear and against my face.
The battery life is incredible...I don't understand why so many other headsets have such average to downright poor battery life. The M55 is rated at 11 HOURS, and I believe it. My initial experience is that this rating is deserved. (I've had 4-5 Plantronics M1100's, and while I love the design, the light weight and the sound quality, I'm always frustrated by the short battery life, probably less than 4 hours.) In addition, the M55 recharges quite quickly, probably 1-2 hours from almost dead.
I'm also impressed with the voice quality. I spend quite a bit of time on it, and the people on the other end can't tell I'm using a headset. That said, it's average in windy or noisy environments. I've had better and I've had worse, so this is in no way a show stopper.
I'm disappointed in the "range", but not surprised. Like most Plantronics headsets I've used (and there have been a LOT), it doesn't do well with any obstructions between the headset and your phone. As others have said, if you have it on your ear with your phone on the opposite side of your body, it can break up or get static/interference. However, with no obstructions, it seems to do okay, meeting the 10M/33FT range I believe.
Plantronics needs to up its game on the cheap earloops. I'm one that always uses the earloop, and, while they haven't broken, they just look and feel cheap. Similar ones have a swivel/pivot where the loop and the snap-section join so that you can better adjust the headset against your face and in your ear. Also, I think it only comes with one earbud, which fortunately fits my ear nicely. However, you may need to order some different sized ones to find the right one for you...they're available and pretty inexpensive.
Overall, this will probably be my daily driver. I have quite a few bt headsets sitting around, but I am really, really liking this one...a LOT. Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone. Just a really, really great little all-around headset.
PROS:
- Battery life - WOW!
- Size and design/appearance
- Sound and voice quality
- Comfortable
- Recharges quickly
CONS:
- Interference/breaks up if your body is between the phone and headset (the main thing that keeps it from getting 5 stars (minor)
- Cheap(ish), inflexible earloop (minor)
- Only one earbud? Seriously? (minor)
