Really like these sheets, sizing is an issue though
I have been buying luxury heavyweight flannel sheets by a famous designer from a major department store for years, paying $250+ for a king size set. Loved those sheets, but the bottom sheet would thin out after two winters, developing tears and ending up as dust rags. Couldn't buy the bottom sheet separately, so I have several top sheets without mates. I saw these Pinzon sheets on Amazon a few years ago, and at that time ordered a set of the pillowcases only so I could see how they held up over time. Pleased with the results, when it was time to buy my winter flannel sheets again, I went ahead and ordered the Pinzon king sheet set a few months ago, in white. After having these for about 3 months, and using them continuously, I feel I can give a proper review now. PROS: These are equal in weight and comfort to the $250+ designer flannel sheets I bought for years. Other than some decorative detail work on the top sheet that are on my expensive sheets,I cannot tell a difference between those sheets and these Pinzon ones. After several washings, these are just getting softer and more comfortable! They are indeed made in Portugal according to the tag and the packaging, and I have no issues with the sewing or quality of the sheets themselves. I have not experienced any pilling AT ALL, something many flannel sheet brands have issues with. I know some other reviewers have mentioned extreme pilling, but honestly, I have not experienced this at all with these Pinzon sheets. I do feel the manufacturer should address the pilling issue with the customers who do have this issue. And the price just cannot be beat for this weight of a flannel sheet. These sheets are warm. We need only these sheets and a very thin down alternative blanket during the cold months. CONS: Sizing is an issue with me, and I think the manufacturer needs to address this in order for these sheets to remain best sellers. I have a new standard king size mattress that measures 13" in height. No topper, just a regular mattress pad protecting my mattress, and the bottom sheet fits snugly - a little too snug in my opinion. If my mattress were much taller, the bottom sheet would not fit at all. The top sheet does fit, but frankly, it could stand to be 4" or 5" longer (from top to bottom) so that it fits under my mattress more securely. The width of the top sheet is fine. The pillowcases fit snugly and are long enough on my king size pillows. I did not try these sheets on the bed prior to washing, so I can't say if they were large enough right out of the package, but after washing and drying the first time, they must have shrunk quite a bit. The manufacturer should take shrinkage into consideration, and maybe adjust their measurements to before and after washing. I honestly do not see how these would fit an 18" mattress as advertised, since they don't stretch out again even when they've been slept on a few nights. I took off one review star because of the sizing issue, but other than that, these will be my go-to flannel sheets for winter. Also, I have a fairly large tub in my top load washer, and I find that I need to wash the sheets individually to get better cleaning results.
