Great smart phone and service, so far. 4.5 stars
I've been a Tracfone customer for probably 6-7 years and this is my first "smart phone." I've been waiting to get an Android until Tracfone offered one in LTE, as I know there was going to be some kind of switch-over from 3G to LTE (not exactly sure what the negatives would be, as I'm quite dumb when it comes to that stuff, but I just didn't want to chance it). I also am becoming a big fan of LG (and have had NO issues with their products, knock on wood. The same can't be said for my experience with Sony). So when this came out, I did some research and finally took the plunge. Had no problem switching my number over from my old Tracfone to this one, and all my minutes and remaining time transferred over completely and without a hitch (and I had like 1700 minutes, which now is 1700 minutes, 1700 texts, and 1700 megs of data on the Android).
I've had the phone for a little over 3 weeks now and have been very happy so far. I set up my main email account using a downloaded Outlook app and it has been super-convenient for checking my emails. I originally used the "email" app, but the Outlook app has some better features and is better tied into the workings of Outlook (as one would hope it would be). The Android phone comes with a ton of Google-oriented items, so if you have Gmail, you'll really have no issues.
I found that a lot of the apps (like weather and news)want to constantly send you notifications (and none of which were majorly important), which of course eats up data. I turned all the notifications off in the settings for each app. Additionally, I turn off "Mobile Data" (an easy swipe down from the top of the screen brings this up along with on/offs for wifi, sound, and screen rotation, along with a couple other commands) so that I'm not getting any notifications, nor are any megabytes mysteriously disappearing. I'm not much of a social butterfly, so I don't need to know every time I get an email. To check email, I just click the Data back on, and start up the Outlook app. Or better, wait until I'm somewhere with free wifi (or my wifi at home) and check my email using that. I realize I'm the odd-one-out when it comes to this online obsession, where one has to be connected for every moment of the day, but so far this phone works perfectly for my weird needs. If you're someone who burns a lot of online data usage, you might want to do more research as to if Tracfone is right for you.
I think the phone itself though will be good for whatever your mobile-online habits are. It's full of options and very customizable.
Battery usage does seem to go much quicker if you're playing games, which I guess makes sense, since you're using up CPU power AND power for the screen. But it was still more than I expected. What do I have to base that on? Nothing. I just thought it would burn less, maybe because my older phones held up better. Then again they weren't capable of doing anything near what the Android can do.
I also got an "Android for Dummies" book from the library, and even though it's like 2 years old, it still has a lot of relevant info in it, and has helped me a lot, especially with this being my first Android (Sounds naughty! Oh my!). I think there's even an updated one, so if you're an Android greenie like myself, that might be worth checking out as well, as the phone (and I'm guessing all other Android phones) are not completely intuitive for the novice Android user.
So, yes, a very nice phone that has definitely made my life easier. I marked it 4 stars, but it's really about 4.5 stars. And, so far, well worth the price. :)
