I gave this fountain 5 stars because it really is good quality, however, I have had a few issues with the filters. I decided to modify the square foam filter that encases the filter using a Scrub Daddy Customizable sponge. I have had this since July, and it seems like the foam filter is just not dense enough to collect enough of the food and hair particles that make their way to the charcoal filter pack. Once the charcoal pack gets dirty, it's kinda ruined. Only some of the gunk washes out. So, I am including a few pics of how I modifed the sponge using a Scrub Daddy. Note: the Scrub Daddy only feels like a soft sponge when used in hot water so it was very easy to cut to the right size as it stays very firm when dry.
