Productively redirects kitty's energy into "hunting" for his food
My 7-month-old cat has more energy than he or anybody else knows what to do with, so after doing research online, I learned that making a cat "hunt" for his food can satisfy their natural predatory instincts and make for a happier, healthier cat. I fill the ball with his food before I go off for the day, so he has (on top of all of his toys, spoiled thing) yet another activity to keep him busy. He's still young, albeit relatively large for his age, but has had no issues whatsoever slapping this thing around, and it took him seconds to figure out that it contained food (since the ball is clear, you can see the food, but I'm sure he can also smell it) and that attacking the ball released the food. Since the opening is a bit large for some treats, you can customize the opening size by twisting the lid to block off the hole (see video), so with that in mind, this ball should work for most sized treats. My cat will patiently and persistently dog this ball for an hour or so to collect all of his noms. I combine this technique with hiding bits of food around the house so that he has to look for it, and between this ball and that, he does seem less neurotic overall.
