Excellent! It really works!
At home we call this “the cone” and the cone really works! However, it does so only if you take all possible precautions in setting up your feeders: tall poles, squirrel-proof feeders (there’s no such thing—but together with other discouraging measures, they do help too), and no launching points in the vicinity. For months we kept our feeders squirrel-free thanks to the cone… until my husband inadvertently left a planter (with something else on top) too close to the bird-feeder pole: and that was it. I observed from the kitchen window, fascinated, the squirrel sizing up his options… studying the situation like a 16th-century Italian engineer (da Vinci!), I could see geometry happening in his little ticking brain, charts, lines, bridges, supporting structures popping up in his head… The squirrel always wins! As you can see from the three photos I am uploading. But, believe me, were it not for that planter that gave the squirrel a launching pad from which to propel itself onto the pole passed the cone, the cone had always worked perfectly well. The cone is great and the best solution to our squirrel problem. Brilliant. (We would never harm the squirrels or any other living thing around us. This is an innocent, lovely, inoffensive, clever way to make life really hard for those ingenious rodents, while preserving food and granting peace of mind to our birds who’ve never been happier.) The cone is very heavy, well-built, super easy to install. Our pole was a bit too thin for the cone, but I solved the problem by sticking a chopstick (yes, a leftover from one of our weekly Chinese take-out dinners) between the pole and the cone’s coupler (there are several more elegant ways of handling the issue, but I was lazy that day—and the chopstick is still holding the whole thing together, steady and unmoved). I highly recommend this product and will buy one more for my second bird-feeder pole. [p.s.: for the third photo, i retouched the cone to make the birds' poop on it disappear... out of courtesy to the public! :) the cone is black but that photo does not show the actual color of the product, that's my doing]
