Hello, Citi Kitty. Goodbye, Kitty Litter!
Our 10-month old cat took to this pretty quickly (though not as quickly as the instructions say, of course). We brought home a rescue cat in October (already litterbox-trained), kept the litter box in the bathroom and moved it up onto a box for about a week before transitioning to the CitiKitty. Once the CitiKitty was in place, our cat hopped up onto the toilet seat right away and started doing his business there. In fact, this is a little weird, but after we put the sign on the toilet seat, "Cat toilet training in progress, please do not lower seat" but before we put the Citi Kitty in the bowl, our cat jumped up onto the seat and stared at us, as if to say, "I'm ready" (did I mention our cat is a freaking genius?). After we made the first cutout in the center of the platter, he continued using the Citi Kitty without incident. We had a bit of a setback after about 3 weeks (into the second cutaway) when our little guy deciding he preferred doing #2 in the bathtub. He was even clever enough to cover his feces with the strainer that normally covers the drain (how thoughtful!). However, we left about 1/2 inch of water in the tub for a few weeks and he went back to using the Citi Kitty. We were a little worried when we had to leave him with a friend over Christmas break (we were down to the last ring and just a small amount of litter), but he kept using the CitiKitty at our friend's place on their toilet while we were gone and never had any "accidents" in their tub nor anywhere else in their apartment. We've had the CitiKitty off the toilet for over a month now with no accidents or issues. It still kind of freaks me out when I hear the cat peeing in the toilet, but it's great not having to worry about the smell (or expense!) of the kitty litter or the annoying grains of litter which were always under foot. Your mileage may vary of course. But for us, it was a smashing success. Recommended! UPDATE: Six months later, the cat is still using the toilet. But I just had to post a couple of "cat on the can" pics. Also, I wanted to mention that after the cat learns on one toilet, he or she should be willing and able to use any toilet. In the pics you'll see Toby up high on a hard seat Toto washlet seat at home and sitting lower on a regular padded toilet seat up in our cabin. He does sit up higher for #2 and lower for #1. Toby has become so used to using the toilet that when he snuck outside for a few hours recently, I heard him mewling to come in. I let him in and he scampered up the stairs to use the toilet. Clearly he is now too posh to do his business outside.
