So initially I bought my 10 year old daughter a 3Doodler pen and the first one never worked. The second one worked for a day and then got clogged repeatedly until we could no longer use it. It was frustrating. Those little plastic sticks don't last long either. I don't think part of the problem was that it ever really got hot enough, which was probably for child safety, but if it doesn't work then what's the point?? This pen, however, is perfect. It actually works. It is easy to use, it has different speeds and temperature, and I think the end result is sturdier. Yes, it does get hot enough to burn skin, but my daughter is old enough to understand that and not injure herself. The fact that it gets hot means that it feeds through smoothly and does not get clogged. She has so much fun with this pen and the coiled plastic that feeds into it is way more practical then the little sticks that come with the other pens. The price is better on the plastic coils and since it is a long coil, it feeds itself and you can actually finish what you are doing. So far this pen is perfect! Highly recommend.
