When our copy of Laser Maze arrived, my 7 yr old son was beside himself with excitement. First, we sat down together and reviewed the rules and explanations of how to place the pieces. The instructions were straightforward and very easy to understand. Next, we played with the pieces so he could get use to how each piece worked. Pieces: Included are a laser tower, mirrors & targets, an archway, beam splitters (my son's favorite piece, and double sided mirrors. The targets light up when they are hit with the laser. After he got the hang of the pieces, we tried the first card together. Before we got the game, I wasn't sure how they were going to turn a laser maze into a logic puzzle. Leave it to Thinkfun to do it, and do it very well! Each card gives you placement for specific pieces. Sometimes they tell you how a piece should be turned. Other times, they leave the orientation up to the player. Then, there are extra pieces that they tell you to add to the board. This placement is up to you. Finally, on the card, it tells you how many targets you have to light up. Many puzzles have multiple targets that must be hit. Needless to say, this has been the most quiet afternoon all summer with my son. He is completely engrossed in this new brain game. My family and I are avid game players. We love board games and strategy/logic puzzles and games. It does seem to be a little more difficult getting children to want to play with board games and puzzles. Sometimes it is hard to compete with Wii and Ipads. However, I believe that Laser Maze is a fantastic logic puzzle wrapped up in just enough technology to keep any child engaged! The only thing left that I can think of to make this a better puzzle would be to have an expansion pack of additional challenges with a new laser piece out for Christmas! (hint hint, Thinkfun!)
