I bought a replacement Cartridge Assembly partly to try to figure out what was wrong with my existing Cartridge Assembly since nothing seemed broken, the tub simply didn't hold water. After a quick comparison between the new and old assembly, I realized that the white hexagonal piece should be fully screwed into the body of the white cylindrical piece. This exposes the maximum amount of threads on the brass screw. (Do not over-torque.) The correct configuration is pictured on the left, incorrect on the right. Additionally, the rubber gasket should be placed around the threaded section of the white cylindrical piece, not around the lip of the metal cap. This means the gasket gets sandwiched between the two pieces. Tighten the brass screw into the drain until it bottoms out and becomes snug. Do not over-tighten. My old Cartridge Assembly works fine again. I am keeping the new one as a backup.
