At first I hesitated to buy this since $39.99 seemed a steep price for what is basically one rug on top of the other and I figured I could make one myself for a much lower price but then I read through the sellers description and realized how much effort they went to to make this a SAFE toy for cats. No chemicals (no VOC's), they tested the strength of the bond on the velcro attached to it, Non-Toxic; Mold, Mildew, and Stain resistant, the list goes on... so I bought it even knowing it can't be returned after my kids used it. When it arrived, they played in the box like always while I set it up but I never even had a chance to vacuum it first (as suggested) before they were all over it, rolling on it, rubbing their own scent on it. And that was just the bottom piece! When I put the top piece over it and made some hills and tunnels our youngest (10 mo. old female who it was mainly bought for because she's at that annoying "I'm bored all the time" phase") came flying out of nowhere and dove in head first then shot out the other end through another hole without missing a beat! We have 5 cats and every single one of them, including the 12 yr old cranky, granny of the bunch took part in the explorations that first day. She mainly sat on the outside and slapped at Phoebe when she poked her head out but she also likes the feel of it on her claws, too. Precious, our obsessive/compulsive middle child LOVES to chew on the bottom layer. I guess the rubber back feels good but it shows no signs of wear after several days of chewing on the same corner. So, yeah, DON'T try to make one yourself to save money. Don't be a cheapskate. Just buy it. This is one of the few toys I will be recommending not only to friends but also to my vet and the cat rescue group I help out with. With 5 cats, 4 paws each, this one gets 20 paws up!!! P.S. Precious told me to tell Snuggly Cat, Inc., "sanks for de rug but make a bigger top to buy seperate pweeze!"
