Quality shaving just got cheaper in a tough economy!!! :)
When I was younger, my dad gave me a double edge razor. It was a good razor and I liked it. But then Gillette sent me a free sample over the mail, and I got hooked on the triple, quad, and five blade type uhmm or better yet hype. But like many here, I realized that the replacements kept getting costlier and costlier (and the specials kept getting fewer and less in between). I am a frugal guy and I would stretch out the use of my cartridges. But at the cost of getting in-grown hairs quite often.
I received my razor today and like many here, I had buyers reservations; after all I purchased one of the cheaper versions available. I will say it does not have cheap feel. One thing that popped up at me is the following that appears on the packaging...
{"We were certified ISO90001 in 2003 and strict quality control systems has been implemented to guarantee our product with excellent quality. Our products, rich in variety and novel in pattern, are warmly welcomed by consumers." "...Highly advanced techniques are adopted in the product design, mould facture, heat treatment, polishing and electroplating, so that each technical target of our product is above the standards of light industry newly issues."}
After feeling the razor in my hand, I was highly impressed. I did not get the impression that I had just squandered my money - my biggest reservation. Hence I quickly set up the razor with the blade it came with. And shaved as normal. And I got a very good quality shave in my opinion. Even my wife mentioned to me that somehow the razor made my face look more youthful. And I've been shaving every day with Gillette Fusion or Mach 3 type razors for years. I am not a guy who walks around with a beard or mustache. So, it wasn't the fact I was clean shaven. But it did even out those little bumps created by in-grown hairs.
One thing though, for you who are in my situation. This is a razor that will even out the ingrown hair bumps. Therefore, when you first start using it, it will likely result in some light bleeding. The Gillett Fusion or Mach 3 would only shave above the skin.
Also for some of you who may have reservation that this razor handle isn't 5 inches long (lenght), I say don't worry about that. I have normal sized hands. I've been to the Hollywood walk of fame, and my hands are pretty normal. Same size as Jack Nicholson and Johnny Depp (I measured them in the cement moldings). The razor does not feel small at all. With the metal weight, it feels perfect and heavy duty in my grip.
I was both hesitant and excited to look in the Double Edge razor market again. My first impressions are that I got a really good deal. But I'll post anything regarding the quality if I experience anything negative.
FYI, I am reintroducing myself to Double Edge razors again. Hence I am not an expert, and will not have any knowledge regarding the higher end razors. I know that it was a tough decision, potentially squander 7 bucks on this razor or just go with a quality reputable $30 dollar razor. I gambled!!! And I'm initially highly satisfied. I don't foresee requiring top of the line just yet.
Update: I've been using this razor for about a year, and I can say that I am beyond pleased. Gone are the ingrown hairs on my neck, which used to always give me little pimples on my neck (nothing too terribly bad, but somewhat of an annoyance). I originally got this razor at $7 dollars, and I bought a replacement to put in the drawer for $3.5, and now I see they are $2.61.... Geesh what a bargain... I am aware the economy picked up and there is more money in the pocket for most folks, but this is a good quality razor. Would never go back to expensive disposable razors that cost an arm and a leg. One more bit of info, I do use shaving cream which extends the life of the blade, and continues to give a comfortable shave - once I feel the slightest pull, I without hesitation replace the blade :) I got 100 blades for 7 bucks on Amazon --- can't beat that.
