Pretty Good Mattress
This is my 5th memory foam mattress. Some of my previous mattresses include everything from name brand (Tempurpedic) to a Chinese knockoff memory foam King size...let me start off by saying that the ONLY mattresses that I personally believe can compete with memory mattresses are the pillow-tops. All the one's I have slept on have been fantastic. I also believe that while you can spend a TON of money on them, most memory foam mattresses are ridiculously over-priced. The $300 Chinese King mattress I own slept JUST as comfortable (overall) as the $4,000 Tempurpedic one. So keep that in mind.
Once you've slept on memory foam, you'll quickly understand why they are popular. I personally love them. The only true downside is they tend to sleep pretty warm, so during the summer, if you don't have a decent A/C you're going to lose a few lbs each night in sweat alone. Move ahead a few years and they introduce the cooling gel infused beds. The truth is, if you spend enough, yes they DO make an enormous difference. Unfortunately that usually means quite a bit of extra $$...otherwise you will NOT notice a difference. My $4,000 Tempurpedic is supposed to be infused with cooling gel and was the reason for it running almost a full thousand dollars more...and yet I noticed ZERO difference between the comfort and cooling of it and my $300 Chinese knockoff mattress. Live and learn folks. True genuinely cooling beds are REALLY spendy.
The Nod Hybrid employs cooling gel, but I was pretty skeptical because of how less expensive it was. I was pleasantly surprised that it legitimately felt cooler than all the other memory foam mattresses I have ever slept on. It doesn't sleep as cool as the really expensive beds mind you, but it also cost a lot LESS, so keep that in mind.
The bed has innersprings which I expected to arrive full-size and not shrink-wrapped. I was wrong. The box is pretty impressively small considering how big this mattress is once unboxed. It was also quite heavy, too...but it's a California King, so that really shouldn't be a big surprise, right? This is my first Cal-King, and I discovered just how rare those beds are. I shopped around quite a bit before I found sheets made to fit them. That was frustrating. I WILL say that until I found some, I managed to fit my regular King size fitted sheet onto it...so if you're desperate (like I was) you'll be able to use that as a work-around until you can get the correct size. It'll be a tight fit, mind you. But they WILL.
Once you open the shrink-wrap it inflates really quickly...so be aware of that. Seriously, it balloons up FAST. I made the huge mistake of opening it up before I assembled my King sized bed frame. DON'T make this mistake.
The hybrid of springs and memory foam works pretty well. Yes, it is soft as a memory foam mattress usually is, but it also provides a comfortable firmness underneath that will probably be a life saver for those with bad backs. Again, I was impressed with how cool I felt almost all night long. Yes, it warmed up after hours of sleep, but it slept much cooler than any other bed I've ever slept on, which I think is an enormous plus for someone like me who sleeps pretty warm regardless of the outside temps.
All in all I am very satisfied with this, and after having extensive experience with cheap memory foam to expensive one's, I can say that you CAN get your money's worth without spending a fortune. In my personal experience, a cheap Chinese memory foam bed is 95% as comfortable overall as a bed that costs 10 times more. For me, the savings far outweighs that extra 5%--but you may feel differently. Just consider that the extra 5% can sometimes add several thousand dollars to your cost, so for the budget conscious out there, it's definitely worth considering. I'm very happy with my bed and won't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
