My favorite go-to bag
I am a road warrior and travel 30 weeks or so a year. I am constantly looking for the right bags to take with me. This bag is my new favorite. For full disclosure, I have owned this bag only a couple of weeks and gave it its first real trial this past week. 4 planes, 3 cities and 3 hotels.
It holds a surprisingly large amount of stuff. The bag I used prior to this was the ClaireChase Executive Briefcase X-wide which was also very good. The ClaireChase was just BIG. I could carry everything but it was like I had a couch with me where ever I went.
So, I tried the eBags TLS Pro Slim. Got it in the gray (very professional looking). Started moving stuff from the ClaireChase and worried what I was going to have to leave behind.
Short answer - nothing. I fit EVERYTHING into this bag that is 2/3 the dimensions. It is just that well organized with intelligent slots, pockets and zippered closures. I LOVE the adapter garage that allows me to FINALLY organize my cables and such. Why has no one else thought of this? Finally, a bag that I can LOCK in case I need to. Again, why has no one else thought that important?
Okay, in the bag goes:
Work Laptop (MacBook Pro)
Personal Laptop (MacBook Air)
Tablet (Galaxy Tab S 8.4) - which now has it's own VERY accessible pocket.
Pens, and notebooks (I usually carry two or three notebooks with me for customer notes)
extra batteries and power battery for various devices
all the rest of the stuff you carry - business cards, mints, hand sanitizer, etc
Power cables for everything in the adapter garage
Sunglasses in case.
Etc.
Oh, and the Napoleon pocket in front. I don't know why so many briefcase manufacturers forget this pocket but ebags didn't. This is the pocket in the front of the briefcase for your RECEIPTS to make them easy to find when you do your expense reports.
That's the thing here. Not only does it carry everything but everything is organized and easy to find. On a long plane ride home this week, I was able to find everything easily by touch in the dark. At the gates, everything I needed was in the front "2d" pocket - okay, that is a really bizarre name, but everything was right there. all the stuff I needed at my fingertips for a long wait. I traveled with some prospects and they called it the magic briefcase because I was able to pull anything needed from it and so quickly it seemed like a trick.
So, in summary, a thin briefcase backpack that looks really professional (in those VERY professional settings, you can tuck the shoulder straps into the slots for attaching to luggage and use one of the two handles to carry it like a briefcase) and holds EVERYTHING but in a much easier to access way. Getting set up in a hotel room's desk area has never been faster. Just amazing how much everything seems to work better.
Cons:
It can get heavy quickly - you forget how much is in it until you pick it up and realize you have your life in there.
The water bottle holder is useless. I actually use it to zip in a pack of Altoids and a package of wisp toothbrush things because it really can't hold a bottle of water. The netting part is just too short.
The sternum strap needs to go lower.
If eBags would make this in leather or leather look material, it would be PERFECT. Hear me, eBags? Leather, please!!!
UPDATE: Now that I have owned this bag for 18 months, I can give a bit more of a review. Bag has held up WONDERFULLY on a constant travel schedule and still looks great. I had a flight attendant on my way home yesterday compliment me on how nice the bag looked and where could she get one. I have found that a thinner Starbucks reusable coffee cup does fit fine in the outside compartment.
Still loving it. Still using it daily. Great bag.
