Has worked well for several multi-hour outages, but no long term outage experience
I had a Generac 7043 installed a little over a year ago by an electrical contractor who did an excellent, very professional job. The total cost including poured concrete pad, installation, gas connection, and transfer switch between the meter and the main panel came to $10,000. The generator has enough capacity to simultaneously power our 5-ton main air conditioner and a 3.5 ton second story unit along with two refrigerators, microwave, electric oven and house lights. The lights do dim a little when the 5-ton A/C is starting. We’ve had about 4 outages during the last year lasting more than an hour. The longest one lasted about 3 hours. The Generac has never failed us. When the power goes off, I count to 6, and I hear the engine start. I continue counting, and when I reach 25, the lights come on. It’s a satisfying feeling to look both directions down our street and see every house dark except ours. Maintenance hasn’t been an issue. I check the oil level every couple of months, but I haven’t had to add any. At the end of a year, the generator flashed the yellow light, and the panel said to change the oil and check the battery. I had the installer change the oil and the spark plug and check the battery. After two years, I will replace the battery.
