Your pump motor has likely NOT failed. READ THIS!
READ THIS BEFORE YOU ORDER A REPLACEMENT PUMP!!!
My third pump in 18 months just ‘died’ when I was cleaning the fountain... just like the predecessors. It struck me that the act of cleaning should not cause a pump to fail. I had routinely pulled off the blue cover to clean, but had never pulled off the rotor cover and removed the rotor. This time I did. I needed to use needle nose pliers to pull out the rotor. It was totally encrusted in calcium. I dipped both the rotor and pump in some ( diluted) CLR for about 15 minutes until the bubbling stopped and used a q tip to clean out the rotor bay. Put it all back together and it worked like a champ!
I believe the calcium encrusting builds up over time, and while the motor is running it stays running. When you unplug it to clean, the resistance is just to great for it to start again. This is why I and many others found the act of cleaning to cause it to ‘fail’.
Save yourself some angst and money by trying this before you buy yet another replacement.
