Lightweight cubes that can hold a lot!
This is my first set of packing cubes, so I have no other brands to compare them to in terms of quality and size. They seem like they'd hold up really well. Even though they're incredibly lightweight, the nylon material that they're made from isn't some cheap, flimsy material - it actually feels really durable.
It comes with 2 medium and 2 large cubes and also 6 plastic zip bags of various sizes - it's actually 7 zip bags because you also get a larger, clear bag that everything comes packaged inside of. I did a test pack of them, using only both of the large cubes and one of the medium cubes. Before I go into what went into these cubes, I should mention that I'm about 5'1", so my clothes aren't that big in general, so if you wear bigger sizes, your experience with what you can fit into the cubes may vary.
I was able to fit 6 t-shirts, and 1 button up shirt inside of the medium cube. When I zipped it up, I realized that there was still plenty of room inside to pack even more! I initially started to pack the second medium cube with socks, underwear, and bras, but found that I was able to fit all of them into the same cube as my shirts. So, not only did it hold the shirts, but also 8 pairs of underwear, 6 pairs of socks, and 2 bras - and there's still room for a little bit more, probably a few more bras. The medium cube still zips up fairly easily. I'm impressed by how much can fit into it.
In one of the larger cubes, I have 4 pairs of jeans, a pair of nylon pants, and a pair of pajama pants. That's all I have in there for now, but it can also hold a bit more. In the second large cube, I have a pair of shoes, a pair of flip flops, two small jackets, and a small sweater. Needless to say, more can also go in there, if needed. I haven't put anything into the plastic zip bags yet, but those can be used for tolietries and maybe items that get damp during your travels.
As far as fitting these cubes into a carry-on bag once they're full, at first, I looked at the large bag, placed it into my eBags TLS Mother Lode Weekender Convertible and wondered if it would really be possible to fit everything in there. Just the one large bag looked like it was taking up a huge amount of space, so I had my doubts. Surprisingly, I was able to not only fit all three of the cubes I packed in there, but my bag was still able to compress and close easily. I have the cubes inside of the bag with the handles facing inward. If you look at the pictures attached to this review, you'll see that it looks like the bag might not be able to close, but it does - and can still be expanded if needed, but then it wouldn't meet carry-on requirements if I were to expand it. But, no worries, it closes just fine!
I'll be experimenting with more ways of packing these cubes to optimize the amount of space there is in my bag, but these definitely seem so much better than packing with without cubes. They keep your luggage more organized and it's easy to just pull out any cube and see exactly what's inside due to the mesh lids. If you're ever stopped by TSA for any reason, this would make it even easier for them to go through your bag because they can just pull out any cube by the handle, run it back individually through the x-ray, or just look through the mesh top.
I think these cubes and plastic zip bags will definitely help me keep things organized during my next trip and would recommend them, especially if you have a bag that just has one large main compartment like a duffel bag.
I purchased this product at a discount in exchange for my honest review, but the discount doesn't reflect my opinions of this product. I would mention any negatives about the product and will update my review if there are ever any issues as I use this packing cube set in the future, but so far so good.
