You will know it's ready when the little red dot on the indicator roller turns white. Rolling hair takes me 5-10 minutes max. I have very long hair. In as little as 10 minutes setting time - gorgeous shiny curls! I can set my hair, do my makeup or just relax. I can leave it in longer for more wave, longer lasting curl but usually I'm going for volume not necessarily defined curls. But I like that I'm able to change up my style. I do love no matter how long they stay in, no tight sausage curls or spirals (thankfully!). These are large diameter "Jumbo" rollers. Don't freak when you first remove them from your hair - It's going to seem tight and defined, then they loosen into these gorgeous bouncy waves/curls. Makes my hair look thick, full.. sexy. And the shine is incredible. I cannot get this look with a curling iron, and this isn't damaging - the rollers are flocked and it doesn't heat up like a curling iron. It works by using gentle heat for a longer period of time. The 12 rollers in this set are all the same jumbo size, which I specifically wanted. 1.5" in diameter which means if you rolled a piece of hair around the roller one time - it would use 5"of length, two times around the roller is 10" of length. It's the same as a large barrel 1.5 curling iron but a very relaxed curl/wave. What I really LOVE is when I've had my hair in a pony tail/clip and wake up with dents, frizz, or just royally bad bed head - I brush it out, roll all my hair and it "forgets" the bad hair day I started with and ends up shiny, full and bouncy. Amazing! The longer you leave them in, the tighter & defined the curl/wave. They come with wire clips AND claw clips. I prefer the wire clips as the claw sometimes leaves a dent. Use a hairspray like Loreal Elnett (sold on Amazon).. it holds but you can run fingers through to fluff. The key is after you remove rollers, let your hair cool. Then shake it out and loosen. I like to leave the hair around my face unrolled and do that lightly with a flat iron. Look on YouTube for tutorials and styling hints with hot rollers. It will help you to see a visual of the style you're looking for. **UPDATE I'm going on my 4th year of owning these and no issues to speak of. LOVE
