Great Air Fryer for the Bachelor, Family, Family Gatherings, & Holidays
I knew nothing about air fryers. Never used one, thought they were expensive (never looked), and probably complicated. Did not want to have to read a thick manual to cook a simple burger. Opened the door and there was this huge box setting there.. like what a computer comes in! Read the Chefman logo on the side. Thought there was no way I was going to have enough room. Opened the box and most of that was air space, with molded ends to keep the unit safe during shipping. The actual Chefman TurboFry Air Fryer is under a foot square, and less than 14 inches high. What a relief! The instructions were a letdown though. No thick manuals or anything, more like two thin booklets: Quick Start Guide which is a fold out guide, and a User Guide of 16 pages. User Guide covers Safety, Features, Operating Instructions, Air Fryer Cooking Tips, Troubleshooting, Cleaning and Maintenance, Terms and Conditions, & Warranty. There are no starter recipes or any word of encouragement for a person who has never touched one of these. Did not find the product (obviously) on the Chefman website, but I did like their Facebook page. So, I did not do anything for the first day. Was online looking how others used this. Decided to cook a burger. That should be an easy test, right? First two photos, perfectly cooked burgers. When I cook I tend to blacked the outer edges, and barely get the meat to 155° F before taking them off the cast iron skillet. Tested these burgers with the same thermometer and they were 160° to 170° throughout! Nothing was burned. They were juicy, cooked, and I was quite impressed. Next day I cooked frozen salmon. Preheating is highly encouraged. One plank was cooked, the others needed a few extra minutes. Use the + Minutes on the touch screen. Last night I was late getting to work as I made some fries! Then another burger that started out as a patty and came out like a small roast or meatloaf - I added some onion and steak seasoning. Oooo!! As a French fry person, I am going to try lightly oiling them next time. French fries taste better with some grease on them. These were cooked, despite having ice & frost on them. I was thinking they were going to come out soggy. Ha! They came out prefect, yet greaseless. Airy, light, crisp - but airy. French fries are not supposed to be Airy... ketchup helped. So there is a different taste texture compared to the juicy burgers. Have a pound of frozen ground venison. How would one cook that in an air fryer I wonder? Not found a recipe yet. Will have to state that I eating healthier, and this Chefman Air Fryer is the cook now, save for eggs and easy stuff. Wonder how it will do with other foods, possibly Chinese like foods? Ordered some books from Amazon as I could not locate any Chefman Air Fryer cookbooks. These should give me a bit more to go on, as I am still new to this. Read that cakes can be made in these. The tray is large, about 9 inches or so square, has a holey tray that slides down with silicone stoppers on the middles of the tray. Tray sets about two inches from the bottom. Put your food in the tray, slider it in firmly, and select Fish, Fries, Chicken, Meat from the pre-selects. I haven't tried custom cooking yet. Only had this air fryer for a week. The exhaust port is in the back, with a red warning label. Since I use mine on a small kitchen table when cooking and safe. The heat goes out the back and does warm up the front room some. Can slightly smell what is being cooked, and the top stainless-steel top does get warm - not hot. | Going to be using this Chefman TurboFry Air Fryer a lot me thinks. It cooks evenly and far better than I can on a cast iron skillet. As to how complex of meals it can cook, I will have to find out. So far, I am very impressed with this new-to-me cooking technology. I heard from others about how small their air fryers are, and they want more room. I showed them mine and I think there will be a few more orders coming in through Amazon. While it may be a bit large for this big fella, I have no worries about not having enough room to cook. This air fryer is definitely a keeper! Thank you, Amazon, for suggesting this wonderful device. Am betting I can cook fries and a burger together, as the pre-selects are close enough.
