Works better than my podiatrist
About fifteen years ago I injured my big toenails by wearing cheap soccer shoes. They have fallen off and been reinjured, and have always been sore and thick/gross looking. I finally went to a podiatrist three months ago. He told me that they are a fungus nail, and that fungus is either spread as you would think, or comes from damage. He said that the kind from damage is hard to treat, and that they would never look better. He shaved them down and said that my choices were to keep getting them shaved regularly, have them removed (which would still regrow with fungus because it's in the nail bed), or have them permanently removed never to grow back. The latter was his recommendation. He said topical treatments wouldn't work on fungus caused by damage, and rarely work anyway.
Rather than having my big toenails permanently removed, I decided to give this product a try. I sure am glad I did! I've been using it every day for about 2.5 months and I can very clearly see the improvement in the new nail growth. My photo shows the gross old nail on the tip and the new healthy growth coming in from the bed. This stuff seems to be working amazingly well! I can't wait for the whole nail to grow out. After that I'll probably keep using it regularly for a while, and then periodically thereafter to keep the nail healthy. I haven't even used a quarter of the bottle yet, so there is plenty of oil to do the whole job.
As other reviewers have noted, this product does smell a lot. It's mainly tea tree oil and oregano oil, and the oregano smell is very strong. My husband calls me Mario and teases me about smelling like an Italian restaurant. I don't care, I don't mind the scent of oregano and it's worth it to keep my toenails.
The biggest negative for me is the packaging. It comes in a bottle with the standard plastic insert tip that supposedly dispenses one drop of oil at a time. Sometimes nothing comes out, sometimes a flood comes out. It also comes with a brush that I use to wipe the oil around. The brush is attached to a lid that seemingly fits the jar, but you can't put it in because of the plastic insert. Am I supposed to take out the insert to put the brush directly in the oil? Then why didn't it come that way? Would that be a mess with too much oil on the brush stem? Overall a better dispenser would be appreciated.
I'm still giving 5 stars because it is doing something that a medical professional said was impossible and is saving my toenails.
